Welcome to St Monica’s Pre School
Established in January 2009, St Monica’s Pre-School located on the site of St Monica’s Catholic Primary School in Appleton, Warrington and are a term-time only setting, open from 8.30am to 3.00pm, Monday to Friday. We are registered to take up to 28 children per session.
St Monica’s has recently welcomed Mrs Lightfoot as our pre-school leader (Feb 2020). Her vision is to use an amalgamation of current 21st century approaches to enhance the experiences and learning of the children. We have recently introduced a ‘loose parts’ area and also a work bench. These have quickly become very popular with our children.
Flexible arrangements are in place for parents requiring out of school care either before or after the pre-school day through WASP’s, an independent after school link club provider. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our ethos is ‘the children are at the heart of everything we do’. Staff strive for the very best outcomes for all our children, we achieve this by forming excellent relationships with the children and working in partnership with parents and family members. We treat all our children as individuals. By respecting that all children are unique and bring with them different experiences of family, friends and their surroundings we are able to fully understand and support them during their time with us.
We provide high quality teaching coupled with a holistic ethos of nurture and care. The is a real family vibe to preschool. Our team of staff are well qualified and highly experienced and demonstrate an exceptional knowledge and understanding of how children learn and develop through play.
Our learning environment is both happy and stimulating with challenging activities led by the children’s interests to promote learning at every opportunity. We have formed our own child centred approach which is an amalgamation of highly renouned approaches including, the Reggio Emilia philosophy, Hygge and the curiuosity approach. We have found that when used toegther these approaches provide the very best philosophy, pedagogy and environment for our children.
What makes us so special?
We feel that all our children deserve broad and diverse experinces. to help us achieve this Mrs Lightfoot is currently training as a level 3 forest school leader. Once qualified she will be delivering with the support of our staff forest school sessions for all our children.
We acknowledge that parents are a child’s first educators, so we value this by working closely with our families to build on their detailed knowledge of their child’s interests.
Home visits are just one of the ways in which we build strong links with every family. This helps us to better understand and support each unique child.
Please note -currently due to COVID-19 home visits are not being carried out. Children and families are invited to visit preschool to get to know staff after normal preschool hours.
Every child in our setting is allocated a special person called a key worker.
Their role is to ensure that each child’s emotional and developmental needs are consistently being met.
Our key workers keep beautiful records of the children’s achievements, as well as monitoring their progress against the early years foundation stage framework via our online learning journal, Tapestry. Staff can share the children’s achivements with parents as and when they happen. Parents can also upload home learning and wow moments so that staff can celebrate them with the children during session times. We have found children develop communication and langauge skills when talking to familiar adults and friends about their home environment and family.
Qualified and dedicated staff
All our staff are highly qualified practitioners which we believe enhances the learning environment for our children. Our key workers have a minimum level 3 qualification.
We offer all staff continuous professional development opportunities to ensure we continually develop our provision and reflect on more effective ways of working with our young children and their families.
Our exciting and engaging pre-school room offers children and their families a truly unique, early years experience. By providing a variety of open ended resourses to spark and enlight children’s imagination.
We have exciting environments for the children to explore such as the loose parts area (indoor and outdoor) the cosy corner, the mark making area, make and do table, the home corner, tinker table. and a gorgous natural garden, complete with our mini beast manor!
Strong community links
We are proud of the family spirit that exists at our pre-school. Not only do we form close links with our parents and their extended families, but we also have very strong community connections with St Monica’s Catholic Primary School, St Monica’s Church. Our staff have a fantastic realtionship with the early years team and collabrate on special celbrations such as nativity. We come together for weekly assemblies which enbales the children to form good relationships with school staff. We have found this has huge benifits when the times come for the chidlren to transition up to Reception.
